Before Cardinal Karol Wojtyla became Pope John Paul II, he spent some time in a ranch house in Clifton, New Jersey, that I built.

He could be seen swimming in the backyard pool. The cardinal never rested. His mystic powers were relegated to any area where he could exercise his good will and blessings. On one of his walks in the neighborhood, he came upon a man busy on his property, hard at work removing some heavy rocks.

"My good man," he said, "it is very admirable to do hard work, but life is too short to work so hard." The man was astounded, and promised to mend his ways. The cardinal then blessed him and went on his way.
